Overview of TEDA
The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, or TEDA, was one of the first development areas to be established in China by a directive of the State Council on December 6, 1984.

It is situated on the shore of the Bohai Sea, some 60km from the city of Tianjin, and covers 33 km2. Outside the TEDA area are three sub-areas: the Yat-Sen Scientific Industrial Park, the Chemical Industrial Park and the Microelectronics Industrial Park.

TEDA's location is extremely advantageous: close to both Tianjin and Beijing on the doorstep of the three Northeastern provinces, in a highly populated, urbanized area with good transportation, developed commerce and market and high purchasing potential.

TEDA aspires to becoming a "modern, international industrial area of the 21st century" and to that end has worked to create an investment environment in line with international business and market practices. Fifteen years of effort have created a first rate investment environment, rapid and growing economic capabilities. TEDA has become one of the most attractive investment places in China, if not in Asia.

Today, 3,140 foreign-invested companies have located to TEDA, total investment has exceeded 11 billion USD. Motorola, Nestle, SEW and Novo Nordisk represent the four key pillar industries of the area: telecommunications, food processing, machinery and bio-pharmaceuticals. Increasing economic capabilities and growing volumes are leading the way for the whole of Tianjin's economic growth.

In line with the principle of sustainable development, rational and well-thought out planning have built TEDA into a neat, orderly and modern industrial are well able to support economic and social growth.

TEDA is now launching its second phase of development to create an even better investment, urban and living environment, as it aspires to become the most modern and largest industrial area in China and Asia in the 21st century.
